C.U.P.
(Campus Unity Prayer)

“Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3)

This Wednesday (29th September 2010) we are going to have CUP to pray for the campuses around WA. It's going to be a meaningful day for us to go around and commit our campuses into God's hand and knowing that He will continue to work in that campus and to bring more people into His kingdom. Come join us with such a great opportunity to pray for one another and commit it all to Him.

Prayer walk is the powerful dynamic of praying on-site with His sight. It uses the sights, sounds, even smells to engage both body and mind in the ministry of prayer.

value of location-praying has to do with presence. Since Jesus lives within you and the Holy Spirit works through you, there is a sense in which your prayer-walking provides light in dark places and salt in unsavory places (Matthew 5:13-16). Your body is a “temple of God” (1 Corinthians 3:16), therefore, where you go, you represent His presence.

:
THIS SEMESTER
OCF CURTIN PRESENTS...

C O L O S S I A N S
A bible study series

Join us as we journey through an old old letter written by Paul (yes, the Apostle) to the Christians in Colossae, in the early AD 60 period, at just about the time he first got sent to prison in Rome. This book marks one of the 'prison letters' written in Rome by Paul to the Gentile believers.

Why did Paul have to write a letter to the Christians in Colossae? (you may ask...)

At that point, it was clear to Paul that false teaching and errors in the teaching of scriptures was evident and rampant in Colossae, and these were clearly threatening the church there:

These errors and false teachings included
- Syncretism: the combination of ideas from philosophies and OTHER religions with Christian truths (and we all know how philosophy was a pretty fancy subject of conversation back in the day...)

- Heresy/ Gnosticism: emphasis on 'special knowledge' and denying Christ as God and Saviour

Therefore, to combat these teachings, Paul saw a great need to stress Christ's deity- His connection with the Father and His sacrificial death on the cross for sin, and to emphasize the fullness they already had in Christ- therefore, all other additions to their faith were unnecessary.

In Colossians, Paul stresses the completion we have in Christ- something some of us struggle with because this means complete surrender & complete dependence ( ZERO self-reliance). Similarly, sometimes what the world says to counter the validity of Christ may make our understanding of the gospel a murky grey.

As we venture through this letter, join us in our bid to find out what it means to be complete IN Christ, and where that places us as Christians from here on in.

WHAT HELPS YOU HAVE FAITH?

OCFers at Curtin shared their thoughts...

hmmm...how about what makes us doubt/not have FAITH?

In a book called Hebrews found in the Bible, the first verse of chapter 11 says
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see"

Our faith is not solely based on our feelings, our ideas or our experiences. Faith is based on the promises of God- His forgiveness, His guidance, His return.
